DRESDEN 〓 Staatskapelle Dresden has announced a lineup of performances for the 2021/2022 season

The Staatskapelle Dresden, a resident orchestra at the Saxony State Opera, has announced a lineup of performances for the 2021/2022 season.

Shortly after the opening, a concert by Chief Conductor Christian Thielemann conducting Beethoven’s symphony Nos. 8 and 9 will be held, and they will conclude the entire cycle of Beethoven’s symphonies, which took two years.

One of the topics of the new season is to focus on Shostakovich. First, in August, Manfred Honeck conducts the Gustav Mahler Jugent Orchestra and picks up No. 10. Next, Tugan Sokhiev will pick up No. 7 “Leningrad” in December, Vladimir Jurowski will pick up No. 15 in March 2022, and Omer Meir Wellber will pick up Nos. 1 and 9 in June.

The conductors who perform as guests are also diverse. In addition to guest performances by Honorary Conductor Herbert Blomstedt and Principal Guest Conductor Myung-Whun Chung, Franz Welser-Möst, Daniele Gatti, Daniel Harding and Ton Koopman will be on the podium.
