Polish-born Krzysztof Polonek has been officially appointed concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmoniker after the trial period.
Polonek is from Krakow. After studying at the Berlin University of the Arts, he was taught by Thomas Brandis at the Lübeck Academy of Music.
He started with the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra and later joined the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra and the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has also served as a concertmaster for the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Deutsche Oper Berlin Opera Orchestra, and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.
He became a member of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2009. As a concertmaster, he will replace Andreas Buschatz, who left the group in 2017. He is also active as a member of the Berlin Piano Trio.
