Herbert Blomstedt, Swedish conductor and the longest-serving conductor in the world, has fallen and been hospitalized. The Berlin State Opera announced the news.

He was 95 years old on July 11. According to the announcement, the fall occurred on the afternoon of the 25th, and the location of the fall and the circumstances of the injury were not disclosed.

In honor of his birthday, Blomstedt was scheduled to conduct a subscription concert of the Staatskapelle Berlin(Berlin State Opera Orchestra) on the 27th and 28th. The program centering on Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7 was hurriedly changed, and Christian Thielemann will conduct in his place.

On the 8th, an album of Schubert’s Symphonies No. 8 “Unfinished” and No. 9 “The Great” conducted by Blomstedt with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra will also be released. What a surprise, this will be his debut for the Deutsche Grammophon label.
