ROME 〓 Opera di Roma has appointed Michele Mariotti as music director

The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma has announced that it will welcome conductor Michele Mariotti as the next music director. His term is four years from November 2022. Daniele Gatti’s successor, who will end his contract in December 2021.

Mariotti is 41 years old born in Urbino near Pesaro. He studied composition at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro. He made his debut as an opera conductor in 2005 at the Salerno Verdi Theater, conducting Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville”.

After that, from 2008 to 2018, he was the music director of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna after Gatti. His wife is Russian soprano singer Olga Peretyatko.
