The German Braunschweig State Theater announced on February 11 that it will change the poster design of their new production “Madama Butterfly”. The design was protested by Chinese and Korean members of theater orchestra.

The poster has the image of Rising Sun spread on a black ground, and the word “Butterfly” hangs on it. They protested that image will remind of a war with Japan.

Their “Madama Butterfly” will be staged from June 27 to July 15 at an open-air theater in the city centre.

In the production plan of Andrea Schwalbach, the image of Rising Sun is projected on the floor, which will be destroyed.
