Salzburg Festival 〓 Festival announced the lineup for 2020 Summer


The schedule for the summer festival of the 2020 Salzburg Festival has been announced. The music festival was founded in 1920 by Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal in the birthplace of Mozart, and 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the music festival. According to the announcement, the music festival in 2020 will begin on July 17 and close on August 31. During the period, over 200 performances will be held in nearly 20 venues.

There are 10 operas that have attracted attention, including new productions, revivals and concert styles. “Electra”, “Don Giovanni”, “Boris Godunov”. “Electra” is directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski and conducted by Franz Welser-Möst. The director of “Don Giovanni” is Romeo Castellucci, and the conductor is Teodor Currentzis. “Boris Godunov” is directed by Christoph Roy, with Maris Jansons on the podium. Anna Netrebko will appear in “Tosca” and Plácido Domingo will appear in “The Sicilian Vespers”.

On the other hand, five conductors, Mariss Jansons, Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann and Gustavo Dudamel, conduct the concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the “Resident Orchestra” at the festival. Beethoven, whose 2020 is the 250th birthday, Muti conducts Symphony No. 9 with the Vienna Philharmonic.

The guest orchestras include Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla & Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra, Daniel Barenboim & West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Ingo Metzmacher & Mahler Jugend Orchestra, Manfred Honeck & Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Kirill Petrenko & Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

The artist’s faces such as recitals are various as usual. Martha Argerich, Christian Gerhaher, Evgeny Kissin, Maurizio Pollini, Patricia Kopatchinskaja and more. Igor Levit performs all of Beethoven’s piano sonatas in an eight-night recital at the Mozarteum Conservatory.
