The Pacific Music Festival, which is held in Sapporo in the summer, will challenge opera performances in 2020. Valery Gergiev, the artistic director of the music festival, announced at a press conference held in Tokyo. PMF was founded in 1990, and in 2020 it is a milestone of 30th anniversary.
Mozart “Don Giovanni” will perform at the music festival of 2020. The director and singer are cooperated with the Mariinsky Theater, which is the home ground of Gergiev. The PMF orchestra under Gergiev enters the pit. The hall is the Sapporo Cultural Arts Theater “hitaru” which opened in October this year.
Also, it was revealed that the winner of the Tchaikovsky International Competition will be invited to the music festival next year in 2019. Gergiev is the chairman of the competition. “Woodpipe / brass instrument category” will be newly established next year from the competition. The music festival is said to invite the winner of a woodwind instrument as a soloist. In the past, the music festival invited Dmitry Masleev, who won the piano division in 2015, to the music festival.
