Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra extended the contract with music director Kazuya Ohno. The term of office extends until March 2023. Ohno first co-started with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in March 1984 with his professional debut. After that, he joined the conductor from 1990 to 1992, and since April 2015 he has served as the fifth music director for five years. In 2015, the European tour which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the orchestra’s establishment has been successful.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1965. It was founded by the Tokyo metropolitan government as a memorial culture project of the Tokyo Olympic Games held in the previous year. The first conductor is Heinz Hofmann, and the headquarters is the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, in Ueno. The current conductor members consisted of Alan Gilbert, principal guest conductor, Kazuhiro Koizumi in Honorary Conductor for Life, and Eliahu Inbal in Conductor Laureate.
