HAMBURG 〓 Blomstedt Cancels Immediate Conducting Activities, Injured in Another Fall

2023/12/23

Herbert Blomstedt, the 96-year-old longest-serving conductor in the world, canceled his scheduled December 14-15 performance with the NDR Erbphilharmonie (formerly the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra) in Hamburg. He also reportedly injured himself in a fall.

The Cleveland Orchestra subsequently announced the cancellation of its scheduled conducting in February and the appointment of Jukka-Pekka Saraste as a substitute.

In the announcement, Blomstedt revealed that he had been advised by his doctor to cancel her appearance until further notice; he was scheduled to be a guest with the Cleveland Orchestra from the 9th through the 11th.
