Gürzenich-Orchester Köln extended the contract with music director François-Xavier Roth. Roth has served as a music director since the 2015/2016 season, and his term extends in 2022. Gürzenich-Orchester Köln was founded in 1827. The name comes from having placed a hall based in the site of Gürzenich’s house. He is also an orchestra dedicated to the Cologne opera, and Roth also serves as general director of music in Cologne City.

Roth was 46 years old born in Paris in 1971. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and began conducting as a conductor. In 2003, he founded an orchestra “Les Siecles” to use instruments according to the era when the piece was composed. He served as Principal Conductor of SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg who stopped working in 2016 (2011-2016). In November 2015 he also debuted in the Berlin Philharmonic.
