The Bregenz Festival in Austria has announced that it will stage Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” on its lake stage in 2028 and 2029. The production will be directed by American director Lydia Steier.

The music festival features opera performances on a stage on the lake. The festival changes the opera every two years, and since 2024, Weber’s “Der Freischütz”, directed by Phlipp Stölzl, has been performed. In addition, Verdi’s “La Traviata”, directed by Damiano Michieletto, will be performed in 2026 and 2027.
