The Arena di Verona opera festival in Italy has broken a new record for the number of visitors. The 101st edition of the festival, which ran from June 7th to September 7th, 2024, featured 50 performances over the three-month period, and 417,354 people attended, 15,000 more than the previous year, which was the 100th anniversary. Sales were said to have reached 33.62 million euros.
According to the announcement, 57% of the audience were foreign visitors from 136 countries, including Barbados, Cambodia, Aruba, Germany, the United States, South Korea, Canada and Spain. Including the four performances of Puccini’s “Turandot”, 16 performances were sold out.
The 2025 season will run from June 13th to September 6th, and the opening performance will be a new production of Verdi’s Nabucco. Stefano Boda will be directing. The repertory will include Bizet’s Carmen, Verdi’s Aida, La Traviata, and Rigoletto. There will also be a gala concert featuring Jonas Kaufmann.
