BARCELONA 〓 Liceu Grand Theater appoints Jonathan Nott as its next music director

The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Spain, has announced that Jonathan Nott will be its next music director and principal conductor. He will succeed Josep Pons, who has held the position since 2012 and will step down at the end of his term in July 2026.

Nott is a 62-year-old native of Solihull in central England. After majoring in musicology at Cambridge University, he studied voice and flute at the Royal Northern College of Music, before turning to conducting.

In addition to serving as principal conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra from 2000 to 2016, he has been music director of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra since 2014 and music director and principal conductor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande since 2017. He will step down from all these positions at the end of the 2025/2026 season.
