What a substitute! Anna Netrebko will appear in the Salzburg Whitsun Festival’s “Tosca” as a substitute for Anja Harteros. The festival’s “Tosca” will be performed in concert Style.

According to the announcement, not only Harteros but also Bryn Terfel will drop out. Luca Salsi is appointed as a substitute. No reason has been given.

This year’s festival starts on May 21st and ends on May 24th. Last year’s festival was canceled due to the spread of the new coronavirus.

This year’s “Tosca” will feature Harteros, Jonas Kaufmann and Terfel, with Cecilia Bartoli, artistic director of the festival, acting as a young shepherd. She sung that role as her first role in the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma at the age of 10.
