SURREY 〓 Grange Park Opera to Present Wagner’s “Ring of the Nibelung” over Four Years, Beginning in 2026

Grange Park Opera, a summer opera festival in Surrey, southeastern England, has announced that beginning in 2026 it will present a four-part production of Wagner’s “Ring of the Nibelung” over four years. Grange Park Opera is staging “Die Walkure” in 2017, “The Flying Dutchman” in 2022, and “Tristan und Isolde” in 2023, and says the time is ripe for its first “Ring Cycle.

Among the summer music festivals in the UK, Longborough Festival Opera is known for its productions of Wagner’s works. The company is currently presenting a new “Ring Cycle” directed by Amy Lane, with “Das Rheingold” in 2019, a second “Die Walkure” in 2021, “Siegfried” in 2022, and “Götterdämmerung” in 2023, followed by a full four-part production in 2024.

According to the announcement, Charles Edwards will direct “Cycle” at Grange Park Opera. Anthony Negus, music director of Longborough Festival Opera, will conduct. The first production, “Das Rheingold,” has a cast that includes David Stout as Alberich, James Rutherford as Wotan, Christine Rice as Fricka, Rachel Nichols as Freia, and Nicky Spence as Loge.
