BERLIN 〓 Berliner Philharmoniker Appoints Its First Chinese Musician

Chinese viola player Mei Diyang will join the Berliner Philharmoniker. The result of the audition of the principal viola player. It is the first time in history that a Chinese has joined the Berlin Philharmoniker. He is currently the principal player of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mei was born in Changsha, Hunan Province, and is 27 years old. He studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and then studied abroad at the University of Music and Drama in Munich. He won the viola section of the 2018 Munich International Music Competition and then joined the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
