PITTSBURGH 〓 Manfred Honeck Has Extended His Contract With The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Manfred Honeck has extended his contract with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Honeck has been Principal Conductor since 2008, and this renewal extends his term to the end of the 2027/2028 season.

Honeck is 63 years old born in Nenzing, Austria. He became a conductor after working as a viola player for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. His younger brother, Rainer, is the concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.。

His starting point as a conductor was the associate conductor of the Gustav Mahler Jugent Orchestra under Claudio Abbado.

Since then, he has been Principal Conductor and Music Director of the MDR Symphony Orchestra（1996-1999）, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra（2000-2006） and the Stuttgart State Opera（2007-2011）.

In the new season, Horneck will hold five world premiere concerts, including works commissioned by the orchestra. In April 2022, for the first time in the orchestra’s 125-year history, he will spend a week performing a concert of all nine Beethoven symphonies.
