ECHIZEN 〓 Music director Hosokawa’s opera “Matsukaze” premiered in Japan

Opera “Matsukaze” composed by Toshio Hosokawa performed on February 16 at the New National Theater in Tokyo. Japan premiere.

“Matsukaze” is commissioned by the Monet Theater in Brussels, Belgium, and is a German opera of one act (composed of five places), Hosokawa composed by Zeami Noh “Matsukaze”. It has been performed in Warsaw, Luxembourg, Berlin, Lille, Hong Kong since the world premiere at the Monet Theater in 2011. The director is a choreographer, a master of German contemporary dance world Sasha Waltz.

While being wrapped in an installation handled by Chiharu Shiota, the singer dances and sings like a dancer, and a fantastic world appears on stage. In this Japan premiere, David Robert Coleman, who held the tact in the performances of Berlin, Lille and Hong Kong, is directing the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Ilse Eerens of soprano and Charlotte Hellekant of mezzo soprano played sisters of the sea spirit Matsukaze, Murasame.

Hosokawa will wait for the world premiere of the new opera at the Stuttgart Opera in Germany in July. It is based on the novel by Heinrich von Kleist of the 1647 Chile earthquake, the script is Marcel Beyer, the production is Jossi Wieler, the stage art is Anna Viebrock, and the conductor is a director of music director Sylvain Cambreling.
