BERLIN 〓 “OPUS KLASSIK” were announced

2019/09/05

The 2nd “OPUS KLASSIK” was announced. “OPUS KLASSIK” is an award for recordings that was established last year in succession to the “Echo Award”. Three new categories have been added from this year: “Composer of the year”, “Innovative concert of the year”, and “Video Clip of the year”, and a total of 24 categories were selected and 45 artists were awarded. The award ceremony will take place on October 13th at the Konzerthaus in Berlin.

The predecessor “Echo Award” was established in 1992, following the “German Record Award” established in 1963. It has been regarded as the most prestigious recording award in Germany according to the US Grammy Award. However, last year, the problem was that anti-Semitic lyrics were included in the song of the rap group that won the pop category. Many musicians rebounded, the award itself was forced to be abolished, and the “OPUS KLASSIK” Award was created in a fashion that separated only the classical Music category. The main winners are as follows.

 [Composer]Jörg Widmann
 [Innovative concert]Benedikt Kristjánsson(Tenor)
 [video clip]“Für Elise”=Lang Lang(Piano)
 [Conductor]Paavo Järvi
