NEW YORK 〓 Dolora Zajick has announced her retirement from the opera

Mezzo Soprano singer Dolora Zajick has announced her retirement from the opera. The New York Metropolitan Opera will be the last appearance in May next year. Zajick will perform in Janacek “Kát’a Kabanová” on May 2, 6, and 9 and sing the mother-in-law, Kabanicha. Zajick was born in 1952 and retired at the age of 68.

Zajick grew up in Nevada, born in Oregon. While studying medicine at the University of Nevada, she was active in a local choir. So she found a musical talent. She then studied at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. In 1982, while still a student, she won the third prize in the vocal division of the Tchaikovsky International Competition and became the first American winner in 12 years.

After that, she studied for the young Singer’s program of San Francisco Opera, and made her professional debut in 1986 by singing the Azucena of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore”. In 1988, she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in Azucena. Since then, she has been active in prominent theaters around the world.
