Hilchenbach 〓 Philharmonisches Orchester Südwestfalen will invite Nabil Shehata to the next chief

2018/12/21

Germany’s Southern Westphalia Philharmonic Orchestra (Philharmonisches Orchester Südwestfalen) will invite Nabil Shehata to the next chief conductor. Shehata was born in Kuwait in 1980 (father is Egyptian, mother is German). I moved to Germany at the age of 5. He won the Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD in 2003 as a contrabass player, went through the Berlin State Opera, and became the principal player of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

He was also expected to be a top player, such as Philharmonisches Streichquintett Berlin, West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, etc, but turned to a conductor. He studied under Daniel Barenboim and Christian Thielemann and debuted as a conductor in 2007. The Southern Westphalia Philharmonic Orchestra was established in 1957 as “Siegerland Orchestra”. They are based in the city of Hilchenbach in the western part of Germany.
