It is decided that the Bavarian State Opera in Munich will shift from the 2021/22 season to the new regime. What the Bavarian State Minister of Culture revealed on the 6th. They invite Serge Dorny who served as intendant of the Lyon Opera to the new intendant, and Vladimir Jurowsky is appointed to General Director of Music (GMD). Dormy is Belgian and succeeds Nikolaus Bachler who has led the opera from 2008/09 season. After having experienced as a staff of Gérard Mortier of intendant at the Monet Theater in Brussels, then involved in the London Symphony Orchestra, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, etc, since 2003 he has been an intendant of the Lyon Opera. From 2014/15 season it was decided to take the intendant to the Saxon State Opera, but it was canceled by the state government just before.
Jurowsky succeeds Kirill Petrenko who has served as General Director of Music (GMD) from the 2013/14 season. Petrenko will be appointed chief conductor and artistic director of Berliner Philharmoniker from the 2018/19 season. Jurowsky was born in Moscow, moved to Germany at the age of 18. In 2001 he took over as music director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera and repeated careers, and since 2007 he has been chief conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2011 he has also served as artistic director of the Russian National Symphony Orchestra.
