The UK-based music website Bachtrack has announced its annual ranking based on the number of performances. According to the ranking, the “busiest conductor” in 2024 (in terms of the number of concerts conducted) was Klaus Mäkelä, who came in second place last year. He overtook Andris Nelsons, who had been in first place since overtaking Valery Gergiev in 2018.

The remaining positions are occupied by Nelson, Jakub Hrůša, Ivan Fischer and Manfred Honeck. Paavo Järvi and Simon Rattle are in 6th place, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Cristian Macelaru are in 8th place, and Daniel Harding is in 10th place.

On the other hand, the “busiest orchestra” was the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, which was an unexpected result. The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra rounded out the top five.

If we look at pianists, the top performer in terms of number of performances is Daniil Trifonov, followed by Yujia Wang in second place. After that, we have Alexander Kantorov in third place, Kirill Gerstein in fourth place, and SeongJin Cho in fifth place.
