The Munich-based Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra(Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks) has announced a lineup of performances for the 2020/2021 season.

The chief conductor of the Orchestra has been vacant since Mariss Jansons died last November. In the new season, various conductors will be performing more than ever because they are also selecting the next chief.

Guest conductors include Herbert Blomstedt, Gustavo Dudamel, John Eliot Gardiner, Daniel Harding, Jakub Hrůša, Susanna Malkki, Zubin Mehta, Andris Nelsons, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Simon Rattle, Franz Welser-Möst.

The orchestra’s debut conductors include Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and Oksana Lyniv, but the focus is on Christian Thielemann’s first guest performance. He conducts Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5.

Speaking of a topic, Gardiner’s concert-style “Don Carlo” is a rare program.

Also, for the new season’s “Artist in Residence”, pianist Igor Levit has been selected.
