BIRMINGHAM 〓 Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra extends contract with music director Kazuki Yamada

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in the UK has extended its contract with Kazuki Yamada, who serves as its music director. Yamada has held this position since April 2023, and with this contract renewal, his term of office will be extended until the end of the 2028/2029 season.

Yamada is 46 years old and was born in Kanagawa Prefecture. He is a graduate of the conducting department at the Tokyo University of the Arts, and in 2009 he won first prize at the 51st Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors in France.

After serving as the principal guest conductor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (2012-2017), he has been the artistic director and music director of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo since the 2016/2017 season.
