Australian trombonist Jonathon Ramsay recently passed his audition for the Berliner Philharmonic Orchestra. He will now begin his probationary period. He succeeds Christhard Gössling, who will retire this summer after 39 years in the orchestra.
Ramsey, 29, a native of Sydney, studied with principal trombonist Olaf Ott at the Karajan Academy from 2018; he will be principal of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra from 2020 and of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra from April 2022. He had won the second prize at the “Munich International Music Competition” last year.
