2021/06/23

The Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) will put the costumes on the on-line auction. The costumes worn by star singers in past performances are said to be used for the youth development project of the State Opera.

76 items will be exhibited, including the costume of Donizetti “Roberto Devereux” worned by Edita Gruberová. In addition to the “Carmen” costumes worned by Agnes Baltsa, Waltraud Meier, Elīna Garanča and others, there is also the costume of Mikaela worned by Anna Netrebko.

There is also a kimono used in “Madama Butterfly”, but it is said that it was made by a Japanese craftsman using Japanese fabrics. On the other hand, “Rigoletto” and “Lucia di Lammermoor” are exhibited for men’s costumes. Lucia’s three piece suits have been worned by Placido Domingo, José Carreras, Neil Shicoff and Piotr Beczala.

The auction will start on June 29th at 3:00 pm local time on the website of the auction house “Dorotheum”. The starting price ranges from 100 euros to 2000 euros, and the most expensive is the costume of Gruberová.
