2023/01/12

The UK-based music website Bachtrack has released its annual ranking based on the number of performances. According to the report, the “busiest conductor” in 2022 is Andris Nelsons, who holds the No. 1 spot after surpassing Valery Gergiev in 2018, conducting 114 performances(131 in 2019).

In second place is Yannick Nézet-Séguin, followed by Paavo Järvi, Klaus Makela, and Simon Rattle. Makela appeared in the top five for the first time, while Gergiev, close to President Putin, left outside the top 10 due to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the “busiest orchestras” are the Philadelphia Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, in that order.

Turning to pianists, Yuja Wang tops the list in terms of number of performances, followed by Daniil Trifonov and Yefim Bronfman. Violinists are Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Renaud Capuçon, and Leonidas Kavakos, in that order.

The top five opera performances were Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro,” Puccini’s “La Boheme,” Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” Puccini’s “Tosca,” and Bizet’s “Carmen.
