The famous choir conductor Helmuth Froschauer died. He was 85 years old. He was from the Vienna Boys Choir and served as choir conductor for the Vienna State Opera from 1968 to 1991, while also conducting choirs at the Vienna Music Friendship Association, Bregenz Festival, Salzburg Festival, etc. He was a leading figure in the German choral world.

He was born in 1933 in Vienna. After the boy choir, he studied piano, horns and composition at the Vienna Conservatory, and learned how to conduct from Hans Swarowsky. From 1953 to 1965 he served as the conductor of the old Vienna Boys Choir and then moved to the Vienna State Opera. Since 1992, choir director of the Western German Broadcasting(WDR). From 1997 to 2003, he was the principal conductor of the WDR Orchestra Köln.
