AUCKLAND 〓 Kiri Te Kanawa’s name for Auckland theatre

2019/08/22

The ASB Theater at Auckland’s Aotea Center was renamed in November under the name of New Zealand’s leading opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city in the north of New Zealand. The Aotea Center is a cultural facility that opened in 1990, and the “ASB Theater” is the main theater. Since opening, ASB Bank has a naming right.

Te Kanawa was born in 1944 in Gisborne, North Island. It draws the blood of Europeans and Maori. After studying opera at Auckland’s St. Mary’s College, she studied in London and made her debut as a opera singer. Since then, she has been active in prominent theaters around the world.

To commemorate the name change, a commemorative gala concert will be held on November 20th to welcome Te Kanawa. Performs with the Oakland Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Giantano Bellincampi and Freemasons New Zealand Opera Chorus.
