The cello section of the Munich International Music Competition (Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD) was held on the 13th, and Haruma Sato, who studied at the Berlin University of Arts, won first Prize. This is the first time Japanese have won the first Prize in the cello section. Sato is 21 years old from Nagoya City. He started cello when he was 6 years old, won many awards at competitions in Japan and abroad, and studied at the Berlin University of Arts since 2016.
The competition is hosted by the German Public Broadcasting Federation (ARD), this time 68 times. It is known as a gateway to young musicians and is known as the most prestigious competition among international competitions. The judging department changes by year, and this year, there are four departments: Clarinet, Cello, Bassoon and Percussion. In the final selection performed by three people, he played Shostakovich’s work with the orchestra.
