The Metropolitan Opera announced the lineup for the 2019/2020 season. Gershwin “Porgy and Bess” is decorating the opening of the season. It is James Robinson that will handle the new production. Eric Owens and Kevin Short have been appointed to the role of Porgy, and Angel Blue and Elizabeth Llewellyn are double casted for Bess. The conductor of this performance is David Robertson.

The new production will be 5 performances including this “Porgy and Bess”. Philip Glass’s “Aknaten”, Wagner “Der fliegende Holländer”, Berg “Wozzeck”, Handel “Agrippina”. Felim McDermott, François Girard, William Kentridge, David McVicar are working on directing.

Music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct the 3 performances of “Turandot”, “Werther”, “Wozzeck”. It is topic that Simon Rattle will conduct “Der Rosenkavalier” among the guest conducters. Mrs. Rattle Magdalena Kožená sings the role of Octavian. In “Der Rosenkavalier”, Camilla Nylund will debut at MET. Michael Spyres in “La damnation de Faust”, Brenda Rae in “Agrippina”, Pavel Cernoch in “Katya Kabanova”, J’Nai Bridges in “Aknaten”, Andrea Carè in “Madama Butterfly” also to debut at MET.

Besides Kožená, Bryn Terfel in “Der fliegende Holländer”, Ana Maria Martinez in “Madama Butterfly”, Carlos Álvarez in “La Boheme” & “Simon Boccanegra”, comes back to MET. Also, it is also a topic that Placido Domingo will challenge the role of Sharpless for the first time. Domingo sings the role of Goro in Mexico as a young besides the role of Pinkerton, and the role of Sharpless is said to be the third role.

Apart from the opera performance, on the New Year’s Eve of 2019, a special gala concert will be held where Anna Netrepko sings the Puccini work heroine. Matthew Polenzani to Rodolfo, Quinn Kelsey to Marcello, Evgeny Nikitin appear to Scarpia. The conductor is Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Also on March 29, Diana Damrau’s recital will be held. Antonio Pappano serves piano accompaniment, and picks up Rossini, Bizet, Wagner, Richard Strauss, Berg.
