Tenor singer Jonas Kaufmann was awarded Maximilian Medal (Bayerischer Maximiliansorden für Wissenschaft und Kunst) from the Bavaria State Government. The Maximilian medal is the best medal given by the state of Bavaria and is given to excellent people in the field of culture and science. This year’s recipient is six people below Kaufmann. An awarding ceremony held on 17th, was transmitted from Prime Minister Markus Söder of Bavaria State Government.
The medal was founded in 1853 by the 3rd King Maximilian II(1811 – 1864), of the Kingdom of Bavaria. It was temporarily abolished in the Nazi era, but revived in 1981. It is limited to 100 or fewer existing receivers, and in the classical music World, until now, Carlos Kleiber, August Everding, Hans Werner Henze, Julia Varady, Kurt Moll, Edita Gruberová, Zubin Mehta etc received it.
