Hong Kong ‘s female conductor, Yip Wingsie, will retire Hong Kong Sinfonietta’ s music director in 2002. She was brought up in Hong Kong, born in Guangzhou, China in 1960. Her father was a musician, aiming for a musician with the guidance.

Later, she learned piano, violin, music theory, orchestral activity etc in Royal Academy of Music in England. In addition she moved to Indiana University in the United States, studied violin, command degree and got a master’s degree. In 1985 she won the 35th “Besancon International Conductor Competition”. After returning to Hong Kong, she has worked as a conductor of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, etc. In 2002 she became music director of Hong Kong Sinfonietta.

Hong Kong Sinfonietta was founded in 1999 and has hosted German Christoph Poppen as chief guest conductor from the 2015/2016 season.
