GENEVA 〓 Russian Dmitry Shishkin won the piano division of Geneva International Music Competition

The final selection of the piano section of the Geneva International Music Competition was held on the 8th. As a result, Russian Dmitry Shishkin (26) = left picture, France’s Théo Fouchenneret (24) = picture right = shared 1st place.

Third place is San JIttakarn (25) in Thailand. Shishkin received the 6th prize of the Chopin International Piano Competition in 2015, and also won several awards such as audience awards.

The establishment of the competition was in 1939. Although it is held almost every year afterwards, it is known as an authoritative competition who does not take out the winner quite easily.

The successive winners include Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Georg Solti, Friedrich Gulda, Martha Argerich, Aurèle Nicolet, Heinz Holliger, Maurice André.

Currently, competitions include piano, string quartet, flute, clarinet, cello, viola, vocal music, percussion instrument, and composition.

In 2018 piano and clarinet were held. 250 people applied for piano division. After preliminary review, 48 people (18-29 years old) in 15 countries advanced to the preliminary round.

The judge chairman is Joaquín Achúcarro, the judges are Hortense Cartier-Bresson, Peter Donohoe, Kei Itou, Björn Lehmann, Cedric Pescia, Andrei Pisarev.

After this, the final selection of the clarinet department will be held on the 14th.
