A new piano Competition will be born in Warsaw. It is named “International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments”. It is scheduled to be held once every five years. Organized by the Polish National Institute of Chopin, with Polish Television and Polish Radio etc. Entry qualifications are 18 to 35 years old.
In the 1st Competition, 30 people from all over the world including Japan will participate. For the judges of ten people, famous pianists such as Andreas Staier, Nikolai Demidenko, Alexei Lubimov, Ewa Poblocka, Dang Thai Son, etc are aligned.
Competition consists of three rounds. The 1st round and the 2nd round compete for the solo performance of J.S.Bach’s works and repertoire including Polonaise by Polish composers who work in the first half of the 19th century (except Chopin’s works). In the final round, six finalists perform Chopin’s concerto with the orchestra.
The prize money ranges from 1st to 3rd with 15,000 euros, 10,000 euros, 5,000 euros. Apart from that, “the Mazurka Prize” was established(3,000 euros). The 1st round will start from September 4th, and the final round will be held on the 12th and 13th.
The pianos used are Erard(1838), Erard Piano(1849), Erard(1858), Pleyel(1848), Pleyel piano(1854), John Broadwood & Sons(1843), Pianoforte Graf(1819 Copy), Fryderyk Buchholtz(1824-25 Copy).
