R.I.P. 〓 Italian baritone singer Claudio Desderi

Italian baritone singer Claudio Desderi died in Florence on June 30. He was 75 years old. Father is composer Ettore Desderi (1892 – 1974). In 1969 he debuted as an opera at the Edinburgh International Festival’s Rossini “Il signor Bruschino” Gaudenzio. He has a wide repertoire from Monteverdi to Nono and he has a tasteful performance and singing in the opera buffa works of Mozart and Rossini. He also appeared in music festivals such as Salzburg, Proms, Glyndebourne. After that, he served as Artistic Director (1991 – 1998) at the Verdi Theater in Pisa, and Artistic Director (1999 – 2001) at Turin’s “Teatro Reggio”. He was also known as an excellent music teacher and was teaching at Rome’s Santa Cecilia Conservatory and Verbier Music Festival.

He debuted in Teatro alla Scala in 1973. Since then, many performances have been performed with Italian Maestro such as Claudio Abbado and Riccardo Muti. Famous picture of ‘Cenelentra’ in the scala in 1981, conducted by Abbado. Also with Muti, there is “Don Paspuale” of the 2006 Ravenna Music Festival, and in the performance of Scala the image of the performance of “Don Giovanni” of 1987, “Così fan tutte” of 1989 is there. “The Marriage of Figaro” has a picture of the 1987 Glyndebourne Music Festival of Bernard Haitink conducting. His songs are also used in movies, including “Liberal Arts” in 2012 and “Last Weekend” in 2014.
