The Santa Fe Opera in the United States has announced that Iván López-Reynoso will be its new principal conductor. His term will begin in 2027. His guest appearance with the Santa Fe Opera in 2022 marked his US debut, where he conducted Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville.” In addition to Santa Fe, he will also serve as principal conductor of the Atlanta Opera.
López-Reynoso is a 36-year-old from Guanajuato, Mexico. He made his debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Italy in 2014, conducting “Il viaggio a Reims,” and served as the music director of the Braunschweig Municipal Theatre in Germany from 2017 to 2019. He is currently the music director of the Orchestra dell’Artes Bellas Artes, based in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.
