Due to the global spread of the new coronavirus, the 18th Chopin International Piano Competition scheduled for October was postponed. It was announced by the Polish National Chopin Institute, which hosts the competition.

According to the announcement, the competition will be held from October 2 to 23, the same as this year. The 164 qualifying participants who have already been announced will remain unchanged. The detailed schedule will be announced on May 14.

Regarding the 18th competition, the 164 preliminary qualifying participants to be held in April were announced on March 9, but the preliminary qualifying itself had been postponed to September due to the new coronavirus.

The Chopin International Piano Competition is held every five years. It is one of the three major competitions in the world, along with the International Tchaikovsky Competition and Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition.
