Around the Music Festival

The Salzburg Whitsun Music Festival has announced its performance lineup for 2025. The 2025 festival will be held over four days from June 6th to 9th, with the theme of “Venice”. Artistic director Cecilia Bartoli has said that “works written in Venice, works created for Venice, and works inspired by Venice will be performed”.

The opening performance will be Vivaldi’s opera “Hotel Metamorphosis”. Directed by Barry Kosky, it will feature Bartoli, Varduhi Abrahamyan, Lea Desandre and Philippe Jaroussky. The musicians of the Prince of Monaco’s orchestra, conducted by Gianluca Capuano, will be in the pit.

On the second day, the Matinee Concert will feature Monteverdi’s “Vespro della Beata Virigine”, and in the evening, John Neumeier’s ballet “Death in Venice” will be performed.

On the third day, “Hotel Metamorphose” will be performed in the afternoon, and in the evening, Verdi’s “La Traviata”, which was first performed at the Fenice Theatre in Venice, will be performed. The conductor will be Massimo Zanetti, and the performers will be Nadine Sierra, Piotr Beczala and Luca Salsi.

On the final day, there will be a music matinee in the morning, with baritone Matthias Goerne performing a recital accompanied by Markus Hinterhäuser, who is the general director of the Salzburg Music Festival in the summer.

In the afternoon, a gala concert will be held in tribute to Rossini, with performances by Bartoli, Melissa Petit, John Osborne and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo.
