Esa-Pekka Salonen announced on December 4th that he will leave Philharmonia Orchestra in 2021. Since 2008 he has served as Artistic Advisor, Principal Conductor. Salonen was born in Helsinki in 1958. Learned from the Sibelius Conservatory, he debuted in 1979 with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. From 1985 to 1995 he served as Principal Conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, from 1992 to 2009 as music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and since 2009 he has served as Conductor Laureate.
