It was announced that “Frankfurt Music Award” 2019 will be awarded to the French Ebene Quartet (Quatuor Ébène). The music award was founded in 1982 as part of the largest musical instrument trade show “Musikmesse” in Europe. The first winner was Gidon Kremer, a spectacular musician was awarded every year except for 2002 when there were no winners. It is the first time for the string quartet to win. Awards and prizes of 15,000 euros will be awarded in “Musikmesse” on 5th April 2019.

The Ebene Quartet was a string quartet formed in 1999 by four students who were studying at the Boulogne-Billancourt Regional Conservatory. In addition to learning from Ysaÿ String Quartet in Paris, he also studied under Gábor Takács-Nagy, Eberhard Feltz, Kurtág György and others. They gained a lot of attention as they won the 2004 Munich International Music Competition (Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD) and won five special awards in total.

In 2005, they received the “Belmont Award” presided by the Forberg-Schneider Foundation. In keeping with the awards, precious Italian musical instruments owned by the Foundation are lent to members. There are many awards such as “Echo Classic Award” twice. Members are founding members of Pierre Colombet (1st violin), Gabriel Le Magadure (2nd violin), Raphaël Merlin (cello). Viola replaced Mathieu Herzog as Adrien Boisseau and replaced the current Marie Chilemme.
