British composer Rachel Portman received the International Prize of “German Film Music Award”. Portman was born in 1965 in Halleysmere in Surrey. She began composing since age 13 and studied classical music at Oxford University Worcester College. She received the 69th Academy Award Composition Award (Musical · Comedy Division) in the 1996 film “Emma” and became the first female recipient. She has worked on over 100 songs of film music. “Chocolat” and “The Cider House Rules” formed with the Swedish film director Lasse Hallström are also nominated for the Academy Awards.
