In order to honor the mezzo-soprano that Spain came out, the concert hall at San Lorenzo de El Escorial was renamed as “Teresa Berganza Auditorium” on 27th. Request of Madrid city council. San Lorenzo de El Escorial is a city that extends 50 km from Madrid city, on the slope of Mount Abantos. In the city there is the Royal Famous House of San Lorenzo de El Escorial Monastery built by Felipe II for the memorial of Father Carlos V. (Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984).

Berganza was born in Madrid in 1935. She studied the piano and vocal music at the Madrid Conservatory, and at the Aix-en-Provence Music Festival in 1957 she stepped on the opera ‘s first stage by singing the role of Mozart “Così fan tutte” Dorabella. Then swiftly dominated the major opera houses. She fascinated many audiences with an intellectual musical approach, a puzzling stage appearance, a wonderful singing.

It is one of Spain’s leading singers alongside Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Montserrat Caballé and others. In 1992 she was singing at the opening ceremony of the Sevilla World Exposition, the Barcelona Olympic Games, and in 1994 it was the first woman to be elected to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Spain. Starting in 2014, Master Class is offered at the Panticosa Music Festival in the border with France, and she is taught young talent.
