R.I.P. 〓 Minoru Nagata, a worldwide pioneer in the acoustic design of the concert hall

Minoru Nagata, a worldwide pioneer in the acoustic design of the concert hall, died on August 7th. He is 93 years old. He was born in Fukuoka prefecture in Japan in 1925. In 1949, he graduated from the University of Tokyo’s first faculty of engineering and entered NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation). In the Acoustics Research Department of the Technical Research Institute, he was in charge of work related to architectural acoustics. After studying in West Germany, he was a director and manager of the Acoustics Research Department. Retired from NHK in 1971. After that, in 1974 established “Nagata Acoustics”, continued active as a pioneer of the acoustic design of the concert hall. In the hall that handled the acoustic design, Suntory Hall, Sapporo Concert Hall (Kitara), Harmony Hall Fukui, Sumida Triphony Hall, Tokyo Art Theater, Great Hall, Ueno Gakuen Ishibashi Memorial New Hall, Kioi Hall, Toppan Hall, Mito Art Museum Concert Hall ATM, etc. There are many in Japan and abroad.
