Gabor Kali (35) from Hungary won the “Nestle & Salzburg Festival Youth Conductor Competition” held during the music festival. The competition was founded in 2010, and honorary president has been served as global tenor singer Placido Domingo.
In the judging committee composed of ten members, Markus Hinterhäuser who is the artistic director of the Salzburg Festival, and Angela Denoke of the singer (the chairman is the conductor Dennis Russell Davies).
After learning the piano at Bartók Béla Konservatory in Budapest, Kali went to Franz Liszt academy of Music in Budapest and further studied at the University of Arts in Berlin.
He is already active as the first conductor of the Nuremberg State Theater. He also won the 1st “Hong Kong International Conductor Competition” held in January this year.
