The performance of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra scheduled to be held in Shanghai on June 10 was canceled by the invitation from the Chinese side. The concert was scheduled to perform such as “Rhapsody in Blue” of Gershwin with the pianist Lang Lang (郎 朗) as a soloist under the command of Zubin Mehta. According to Mehta receiving a shoulder operation at the end of last year, the conductor changed to Lahav Shani, the invitation was canceled without being satisfied with it.
Shani was born in Tel Aviv in 1989. He won the “Mahler International Conductor Competition” organized by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in 2013 and gained much attention and served as the chief conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra from the 2018/2019 season. In 1969, Israel Phil grew Mehta as a music director at the young age of 33, but Shani is decided to take on the position as young as 31 years old from the 2020/2021 season.
