To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Venezuelan music education program “El Sistema”, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, led by conductor Gustavo Dudamel, who was trained at the program, has started a European tour.

El Sistema is a music education system that was started in Venezuela in 1975 with the aim of nurturing young people through music, at the suggestion of musician and economist José Antonio Abreu.

From there, many musicians have gone on to become musicians, including Dudamel, Diego Matheuz and Christian Vasquez(conductor), as well as Edickson Ruiz(principal double bass player of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra).

Today, around 400,000 children in Venezuela participate in the program, and there are also applied programs in over 50 countries around the world.

The tour started in Paris on the 11th, and will visit London, Luxembourg, Berlin, Munich and Brussels before concluding in Madrid on the 25th.

The program includes Ricardo Llorens’s “Todo Terreno”, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, Gonzalo Grau’s “Odisea”, Ravel’s “Bolero”, Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.
