The Latvian National Opera and Ballet, based in the capital city of Riga, has filed a lawsuit seeking damages against Katharina Wagner, the artistic director of Germany’s Bayreuth Festival. Riga is the city where the composer Richard Wagner took the first steps of his career as a music director.
Katharina is currently 48 years old. She is the daughter of Wolfgang Wagner—who led the post-war music festival—and his second wife, as well as the great-granddaughter of the Wagner.
According to local reports, her production team abruptly withdrew from the production of Wagner’s *Parsifal*—scheduled for October 2025—just three months prior to the event, causing significant financial losses for the Latvian National Opera and Ballet.
