The Bavarian State Opera(Bayerische Staatsoper) has revealed this summer’s Munich Opera Festival. The festival opens on June 28 and closes on July 31. Johann Strauss II “Die Fledermaus” will be performed on the final day. Two new productions to be presented during the festival are Ligeti’s “Le Grand Macabre” and Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande.
According to the announcement, “Le Grand Macabre” will open on June 28. The production will be directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski and conducted by Kent Nagano. The singers include Sarah Aristidou for Gepopo, with Avery Amereau, Brindley Sherratt, Benjamin Bruns, Michael Nagy, and Bálint Szabó.
Meanwhile, “Pelleas et Melisande” will open on July 9. The production at the Prinz Regenten Theater is conducted by Hannu Lintu and directed by Jetske Mijnssen. The cast includes Sabine Devieilhe as Melisande, Ben Bliss as Pelleas, Christian Gerhaher as Golaud, Franz-Josef Selig as Arkel, and Sophie Koch as Genevieve.
